New Delhi, Jan 14 (NVI) Amidst intense speculation of military action by the US and Israel on Iran, India advised its nationals in the Persian country to leave by available means “in view of the evolving situation” there.
The Indian government also strongly advised the Indian nationals to avoid travelling to Iran.
“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” said an advisory issued by the Indian embassy in Iran today.
“It is reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs (persons of Indian origin) should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran and monitor local media for any developments,” the advisory said.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a separate statement, advised Indians to avoid travelling to Iran until further notice “in view of the ongoing developments in Iran”.
In an earlier advisory issued on January 5, the MEA urged its nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Iran.
It had also asked Indian citizens and PIOs( Persons of Indian Origin) residing in Iran to exercise due caution and avoid visiting areas of protests.
Iran, over the last few days, has witnessing massive protests and a government crackdown, resulting in serious security situation.
Amidst these developments, there is intense speculation that the US and Israel could soon launch military attacks on Iran to topple the regime there.
US President Donald Trump has warned the government of Iran against a brutal crackdown on demonstrators and told the protesters to continue the agitation as “help is on the way”, indicating American military strikes. (NVI)
