Peshwar, Feb 2 (NVI) The Pakistani military continues to suffer heavily in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and elsewhere due to the ongoing ‘Operation Al-Khandaq’ of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has claimed to have killed 350 personnel of the armed government forces and injured 361 in 245 actions during the month of January.
Issuing a detailed report of its operations carried out during January, the TTP said the maximum 56 actions were conducted in South Waziristan, 39 in North Waziristan, 33 in Tank district, 26 in Bannu district, 18 in Dera Ismail Khan district, 15 in Khyber district, 14 each in Bajaur and Lakki Marwat districts, 12 in Peshawar district, 4 in Kurram district and 3 each in Mohmand and Kohat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
The TTP also carried out 5 operations in Quetta district of Balochistan and 2 in Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab Province, according to the statement issued by its spokesman Muhammad Khorasani.
The types of operations included 66 Sniper/laser attacks, 41 Direct confrontational attacks, 31 Guerrilla attacks, 28 Targeted attacks, 27 Ambushes, 20 Grenade/bomb explosions, 18
Retaliatory attacks and 14 Missile attacks, the statement said.
Besides killing and injuring 711 personnel of the Pakistani forces, the TTP captured 17 military personnel.
Among the killed/injured personnel, 436 belonged to the Pakistan Army/Special Services Group (SSG), 150 to the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC), 102 to Police/Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and 40 to Intelligence/Peace Committees.
The killed/injured armed forces personnel included 1 Captain and 1 Inspector, according to the statement.
These actions of TTP resulted in destruction of 21 military/police structures, 16 military trucks and other vehicles, 2 Tanks/armoured vehicles, 2 drones, 34 security cameras, 5 water/energy systems and 1 Excavator.
The TTP also seized military equipment, including 4 vehicles, 11 types of firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, 2 grenades, and supplies meant for armed forces.
In these actions, TTP lost 15 of its cadres, according to the statement.
TTP launched ‘Operation Al-Khandaq’ or ‘Spring Offensive 2025’ in March last year to specifically target Pakistani military and its associates with more intensity.
While announcing the launch, the TTP had said its fighters have already “landed in the battlefield equipped with modern resources in most of the provinces” to carry out the operation.
For the operation, special units were constituted at the central and provincial levels of TTP and the fighters were specially trained in guerella warfare.
The Al-Khandaq involves targeted attacks, counter-attacks, raids, intelligence attacks, sniper attacks, and indiscriminate attacks using modern laser guns in a systematic manner on security institutions, their vehicles, and their camps, forts, and posts. (NVI)
