Domestic LPG Supply Prioritised; 25-Day Gap Between Bookings Introduced

New Delhi, Mar 10 (NVI): In view of ongoing geopolitical disruptions affecting fuel supply and constraints in the availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed oil refineries to enhance LPG production and utilise the additional output primarily for domestic consumption.

According to official directives, the ministry has prioritised the supply of domestic LPG cylinders to households to ensure uninterrupted availability for cooking purposes. To prevent hoarding and black marketing, authorities have also introduced a 25-day inter-booking period between successive LPG cylinder bookings.

Officials said that non-domestic LPG supplies sourced from imports are being prioritised for essential sectors, including hospitals and educational institutions, to maintain critical services.

For other non-domestic sectors such as restaurants, hotels and industries, the ministry has constituted a committee comprising three Executive Directors (EDs) of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). The panel will review representations and requests related to LPG supply for these sectors.

The move aims to streamline LPG distribution and ensure that essential domestic and institutional needs are met during the current supply constraints, officials added.(NVI)
