Srinagar, Mar 13 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Mahila Congress president Shameema Raina on Friday criticised the Centre over the continuous rise in inflation, particularly the hike in LPG cylinder prices, saying it has placed a heavy burden on ordinary households.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Srinagar, Raina said inflation has emerged as the biggest concern for common people, but the government has failed to take meaningful measures to control it.
She said farmers, workers, the middle class and homemakers are among the worst affected by the rising prices of essential commodities, adding that household budgets are under severe strain.
The Mahila Congress leaders highlighted that increasing prices of petrol and diesel, the rising cost of LPG cylinders and inflation in cooking oil, pulses, vegetables and other daily essentials have significantly increased the financial burden on families.
They alleged that the government’s economic policies have failed to contain inflation and that excessive taxation on petrol and diesel, along with the absence of effective steps to stabilise prices of essential commodities, has worsened the situation.
The leaders also claimed that while people are struggling with rising prices, attempts are being made to divert attention from the issue of inflation.
The Mahila Congress demanded immediate reduction in taxes on petrol and diesel, a cut in LPG cylinder prices, implementation of effective policies to control prices of essential commodities and a special relief package for poor and middle-class families affected by inflation.
Raina said the Congress will continue to raise the issue of inflation both in Parliament and on the streets until relief is provided to the people.(NVI)
