Reasi, Mar 14 (NVI): The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Reasi on Saturday organised the first National Lok Adalat of 2026 in the district, during which over 2,300 cases were amicably settled and disputes worth more than ₹1 crore were resolved, officials said.
The Lok Adalat was held under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority under the supervision of Chairman DLSA and Principal District & Sessions Judge Reasi, Khalil Choudhary, and guidance of Secretary DLSA Reasi, Pooja Gupta.
The event was inaugurated by Choudhary in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Reasi Kumar Abhishek, Senior Superintendent of Police Paramvir Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate Geeta Kumari and other judicial officers, officials and members of the Bar.
A total of 16 benches were constituted to hear various categories of cases including matrimonial disputes, cheque bounce matters under the Negotiable Instruments Act, civil disputes, criminal compoundable cases, bank recovery matters and pre-litigation cases.
According to officials, 3,105 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat, of which 2,327 were settled amicably, resulting in a settlement amount of ₹1,06,01,019.
Authorities said the Lok Adalat provided an effective platform for amicable dispute resolution, helping reduce pendency of cases while ensuring speedy and affordable justice to litigants.
An exhibition of handicrafts and vocational training products was also organised in collaboration with the Department of Handicrafts Reasi on the sidelines of the event, which was attended by advocates, court staff, litigants and para legal volunteers.(NVI)
