New Delhi, Mar 28 (NVI ): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday chaired the first meeting of the Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM) to review the evolving situation in West Asia and assess its possible impact on India.

According to officials, the meeting discussed sector-wise implications of the developments in the region and reviewed preparedness measures to address potential challenges.

During the meeting, Singh emphasised the need for a proactive and coordinated approach, stressing that the government should adopt a medium to long-term preparedness strategy and ensure swift decision-making to deal with any emerging situation.

The Defence Minister said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains committed to safeguarding Indian citizens and minimising any possible impact arising from the developments in West Asia.

The IGoM also highlighted the importance of close coordination with states and district administrations. Ministries and departments were directed to share timely information and advisories to counter rumours, misinformation and fake news.

The meeting was attended by several Union ministers, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, among others.—(NVI)
