Srinagar, Apr 3 (NVI): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a Naib Tehsildar and a Patwari from Uri in Baramulla district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to provide revenue documents on Friday.

ACB spokesperson, the chargesheet has been filed before a special anti-corruption court against Altaf Hussain Khan, then Naib Tehsildar Uri, and Pardeep Kumar, Patwari Halqa Uri, in connection with a bribery case registered in 2024.

The case stems from a complaint lodged by a resident of Uri in September 2023, alleging that the accused officials demanded ₹10 lakh, later negotiated to ₹1 lakh, for furnishing required revenue documents related to a land dispute.

Acting on the complaint, the ACB carried out a verification and subsequently laid a trap, during which Altaf Hussain Khan was caught red-handed while accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant. The tainted amount was recovered from his possession, and he was arrested on the spot.

The investigation also established the involvement of the Patwari, Pardeep Kumar, based on evidence collected during the probe, the spokesperson said.

After completing the investigation and obtaining the necessary sanction for prosecution from the Jammu and Kashmir government, the ACB filed the chargesheet under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Baramulla.

The court has fixed May 2, 2026, as the next date of hearing in the case, officials added.(NVI)
