Srinagar, Apr 22 (NVI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday attached multiple properties of a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operative in connection with the 2017 fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in Lethpora, Pulwama, in which five personnel were killed and three others critically injured.
The operation was carried out under Section 33(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, following orders from the NIA Special Court in Jammu. The move is aimed at dismantling the terror ecosystem operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
The attached properties include land parcels and residential premises located in Lethpora area of Awantipora in Pulwama district. These assets belonged to accused Fayaz Ahmad Magray and have been identified as proceeds of terrorism.
Magray, a resident of Lethpora, was arrested by NIA in February 2019 in connection with case RC-10/2018/NIA/DLI. He was chargesheeted in August 2019 under various sections of the RPC and UA(P) Act, and the trial in the case is currently underway.
The attack on the CRPF camp took place on the night of December 30, 2017, when three heavily armed terrorists stormed the premises and opened fire. All three attackers were later neutralised by security forces.
Investigations revealed that Magray was an active Over Ground Worker (OGW) of JeM in South Kashmir. He had allegedly assisted the attackers by conducting reconnaissance of the target, arranging logistics and facilitating movement. He was also linked with other JeM operatives, including Noor Mohammad Tantray and Mudasir Ahmad Khan, both of whom were later killed in separate encounters.
The NIA said further investigation in the case remains ongoing.(NVI)
