Punjab, Apr 29 : (NVI) In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police have busted a suspected terror module with alleged links to Pakistan’s ISI and pro-Khalistan elements, recovering a cache of arms and explosives in Tarn Taran district, officials said on Wednesday.

DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said that the recovery was made during a joint operation by Patiala Police and the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, as part of ongoing investigations into the attempted IED blast on a railway track at Shambhu in Patiala district on April 27.

DGP Punjab said seized items include one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, a metallic improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 2.296 kg along with detonators and a battery, two packets of RDX weighing 1.456 kg, one hand grenade, three high-end pistols with magazines and ammunition, and two wireless communication sets with headphones.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the module was backed by a Malaysia-based entity, with financial support allegedly routed through the country.

DGP said the network’s possible links with the Sirhind railway track blast and a grenade attack on a CIA facility in Moga are also being probed.

Punjab Police said efforts are underway to dismantle the broader terror network and prevent any further threats to public safety.(NVI)
