Srinagar, July 12 (NVI): Rainfall at several places across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday brought relief from the prevailing heatwave, with Pahalgam recording the highest precipitation in the Union Territory over the past 24 hours, officials said.
According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Pahalgam received 42.6 mm of rainfall, followed by Poonch with 30 mm, Sonamarg 21 mm, Gulmarg 11.8 mm and Baramulla 5.5 mm.
Qazigund recorded 0.6 mm of rainfall, Kupwara 0.7 mm and Konibal 1.2 mm during the same period, the officials said.
Light showers were also reported from Srinagar and several other parts of the Kashmir Valley, leading to a noticeable fall in temperatures after days of intense heat and humid conditions.
Meanwhile, heavy rain triggered flash floods in Nallah Awoora in Pahalgam on Saturday evening, affecting several hotels and houses. Officials said tourists were safely shifted to secure locations and no loss of life was reported.
The Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy weather with intermittent rain spells across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours. It also cautioned that intense showers at isolated places could trigger localized flash floods.—(NVI)
