Man Killed in bid to snatch rifle of policeman in J&K, cop injured

Bhaderwah (J&K), July 17 (NVI): A man was killed during his attempt to snatch a rifle from a security person in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir last night.

A J&K Policeman was also injured in the incident that took place in Gandoh area of the district, officials said.

“Last night, on detecting suspicious movement in general area of Jai Valley, Baderwah , police team challenged those persons.

“It led to scuffle, in which there was an attempt to snatch weapon.

“A single round fire got discharged leading to injury to the assailant. He was extricated to hospital, but succumbed,” police said in a statement today.

The deceased was identified as Arif from Bhaderwah.

Policeman has also suffered serious head injuries.

Place of incident is about 25 km from his residence.

“No terror angle is there. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased was into bovine smuggling,” the police said.

Meanwhile, police have detained a religious preacher for questioning in connection with the incident.

Further investigation into the incident has been taken up. (NVI)
