Srinagar, Jul 18 (NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday extended the ongoing summer vacation in all government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir division and winter zone of Jammu division by three more days in view of the prevailing heatwave and an adverse weather forecast.
According to an order issued by the School Education Department, schools will now remain closed till July 22 and reopen on July 23, unless further orders are issued.
The schools were originally scheduled to reopen on July 20 after the summer break.
Officials said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure in view of the continuing heatwave and weather advisories issued by the Meteorological Department.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places and warned of the possibility of flash floods in parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days.
The School Education Department advised parents, students and school authorities to follow official advisories and said any further decision regarding the reopening of schools would be communicated through subsequent orders.(NVI)
