Jammu, July 27 (NVI): Security forces on Monday launched extensive search operations in forward areas of Samba and Rajouri districts after suspected drone movement was detected along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

Officials that alert Army personnel noticed suspected drone activity during the night in Nandpur area of Samba near the IB and in Tarkundi-Saaj along the LoC in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri.

Following the sightings, security forces, including the Army, police and other agencies, launched searches in the affected areas early Monday morning to ascertain whether any weapons, narcotics or other contraband had been dropped by the suspected drones, they said.

Officials said no recovery or arrest had been made so far, while search operations were continuing when the last reports came in.

They said security has been further tightened in the border belt amid a recent increase in suspected drone activity, particularly in Samba and Kathua districts. Surveillance and anti-drone measures have also been intensified to thwart possible attempts to smuggle arms, narcotics or facilitate infiltration, the officials added. (NVI)
