Srinagar, July 28 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday visited the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, to enquire about the condition of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims injured in a road accident in Ganderbal district.
The Lieutenant Governor met the injured devotees, interacted with doctors and hospital authorities, and reviewed the treatment being provided to them, officials said.
He directed health authorities to ensure the best possible medical care and extend all necessary assistance to the injured pilgrims.
SKIMS Director Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ganie briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the condition of the injured and the treatment being provided, they said.
Sinha was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi, Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Rajiv Pande, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo and other senior officials.
Earlier in the day, the Lieutenant Governor had spoken to the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal and senior health officials to review the situation and directed them to ensure prompt treatment for the injured.
Thirty-nine Amarnath pilgrims were injured after the bus they were travelling in met with an accident near Gund in Ganderbal district on Tuesday. They were initially shifted to Sub-District Hospital Kangan before being referred to SKIMS for specialised treatment.
Officials said all the injured pilgrims are under medical observation, while police have initiated an investigation into the incident.(NVI)
