Jammu, Aug 8 (NVI) The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Jammu has filed a chargesheet against a man for allegedly encroaching upon 2 kanal and 11 marla of state land in Sunderbani area of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
The chargesheet was filed before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC), Sunderbani, against Yash Paul, a resident of Bhajwal village, they said.
According to the Crime Branch, the accused allegedly encroached upon state land falling under Khasra Nos 3913 and 3914 in Bhajwal.
The case was registered as FIR No. 39/2022 at Police Station Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu on the basis of a complaint alleging encroachment of state and forest land in connivance with revenue and forest officials.
During the investigation, the Crime Branch found that a mutation, numbered 4193 and dated September 5, 2018, had been attested in violation of government orders, officials said.
The mutation was later declared null and void by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sunderbani, in December 2022 following quasi-judicial proceedings and was subsequently cancelled from the revenue records.
A demarcation of the land was carried out by revenue officials in the presence of forest officials, which confirmed the alleged encroachment of 2 kanal and 11 marla of state land, the officials said.
The investigation was subsequently completed and the chargesheet, along with the list of witnesses and seized documents, was presented before the court, they added.
The Crime Branch has urged people to remain vigilant against land-related fraud and report cases of alleged encroachment or land fraud to the authorities.—(NVI)
