Kishtwar, Aug 15 (NVI): At least five people were killed after a Mahindra Scorpio skidded off the road and plunged into the Chenab River in Yainwan area of Dangdaroo in Kishtwar district on Saturday, officials said.
The accident took place when the vehicle was travelling from Dangdaroo towards Sounder in the Dachhan area, they said.
Soon after the incident, a police team along with local residents reached the spot and launched rescue and recovery operations.
Five bodies have so far been recovered from the accident site. The exact number of people travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident has not yet been ascertained, officials said.
Rescue operations are continuing, while authorities are working to establish the identities of the deceased and determine the circumstances that led to the accident.(NVI)
