EOW Kashmir chargesheets man for alleged attempt to bribe Crime Branch officer

August 18, 2026 at 9:31 am

Srinagar, Aug 18 (NVI): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Budgam resident for allegedly attempting to influence an ongoing investigation by transferring Rs 10,000 to the bank account of an Investigation Officer, officials said on Tuesday.

The chargesheet was filed before the court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in FIR No. 28/2026 against Ghulam Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Mirgund in Budgam district, for alleged offences under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 228 and 229 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), they said.

According to the EOW, the accused is also facing investigation in FIR No. 11/2021 registered by the Crime Branch Kashmir, now EOW Kashmir.

The investigation into the latest case was initiated following a written complaint alleging that Ganie transferred Rs 10,000 to the bank account of the Investigation Officer with the intention of bribing him and influencing the probe in the earlier case.

During the investigation, the allegations were examined and relevant evidence collected, officials said, adding that the probe established the accused’s involvement in the alleged act.

The chargesheet has now been presented before the court for judicial determination in accordance with law, they said.

The EOW advised people against offering or paying bribes to public servants and urged them to report any demand for bribes or involvement in corrupt practices to the competent authorities.(NVI)
