Jammu, Oct 17 (NVI): The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 385 grams of suspected heroin and arrested a person during an intelligence-based operation in the Digiana area of Jammu, officials said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out by the NCB’s Jammu Zonal Unit on October 16 following specific intelligence inputs about the alleged trafficking of heroin in the area, they said.
Acting on the inputs, the NCB team maintained surveillance in Digiana and intercepted a person, a resident of Miran Sahib in Jammu, who was allegedly attempting to deliver the contraband.
During the operation, the officials recovered four packets containing a total of 385 grams of suspected heroin, which were subsequently seized. The accused was arrested in connection with the case, they said.
Preliminary investigation has indicated possible links between drug traffickers operating in Jammu and sources in Punjab, with the seized substance suspected to have been intended for distribution in Jammu district, officials said.
However, these leads are being investigated, and further details are awaited.
The NCB has initiated further investigation to identify other persons allegedly involved in the trafficking operation and establish the wider network’s forward and backward linkages, including possible interstate connections.
Officials said the investigation was aimed at tracing the supply chain beyond the immediate seizure and arrest and identifying other members of the suspected drug trafficking network.
The NCB Jammu has appealed to the public to share credible information regarding drug trafficking and substance abuse through the National Narcotics Helpline, MANAS, at 1933. Information can be shared confidentially, it said.
The bureau reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led enforcement against drug trafficking and efforts to support the national mission of a drug-free India under the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative.—(NVI)
