New Delhi, Oct 21 (NVI): The ninth edition of the India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime Exercise (IBSAMAR IX) concluded at Simon’s Town in South Africa on October 20, with the three countries’ navies undertaking joint training and professional exchanges to enhance interoperability and operational cooperation.

The 10-day exercise comprised harbour and sea phases, during which personnel from the Indian, Brazilian and South African navies participated in joint maritime evolutions, operational interactions and professional engagements, officials said.

The activities provided an opportunity for the participating navies to familiarise themselves with each other’s procedures, capabilities and operational practices, strengthening mutual understanding and coordination at sea.

Addressing the closing ceremony, the Commanding Officer of INS Tarkash highlighted the role of IBSAMAR in translating longstanding diplomatic relations among the three countries into practical naval cooperation.

He emphasised that the exercise was not limited to joint operations at sea but also fostered professional relationships, mutual learning and trust among personnel of the participating navies.

India, Brazil and South Africa share common interests in ensuring safe, secure and stable maritime spaces. The trilateral exercise provides a platform for the three navies to exchange best practices, address shared maritime challenges and enhance their ability to operate together.

The exercise also reinforced the importance of jointmanship and interoperability through coordinated training and sustained professional engagement, strengthening institutional ties for future cooperation.

The successful conclusion of IBSAMAR IX reaffirmed the commitment of the three countries to enhancing maritime cooperation and contributing to safe, secure and open seas based on a rules-based international order.—(NVI)
