New Delhi (NVI): India’s active coronavirus cases continues to follow a consistent downward slide, as it has dropped to 1.51 lakh and stands at 1,51,460, according to Union Health Ministry.
“The total active cases have dropped to 1.51 lakh (1,51,460) and it is less than total deaths recorded (1,54,823), while the present active COVID-19 caseload consists of just 1.40 per cent of total positive cases,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
The ministry also said that, the country’s daily new cases also continue to follow a downward trajectory. A total of 12,408 new positive cases recorded in the last 24 hours.
It added that, “India’s cases per million population (7,828) are amongst the lowest in the world. This count is much higher for countries like Russia, Germany, Italy, Brazil, France, UK and USA.”
As many and 17 States and Union Territories have a lower case per million population than the national average. Out of which, Lakshadweep has the lowest average of 1,722 cases per million among all states and UTs.
In another development, nearly 50 lakh (49,59,445) beneficiaries have received the COVID-19 vaccination as on February 5, 2021, till 8:00 am under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination exercise, the ministry said. In the last 24 hours, 5,09,893 people were vaccinated across 11,184 sessions, while 95,801 sessions have been conducted so far.
“61 per cent of beneficiaries vaccinated are from 8 States and UTs and Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for 11.9 per cent (5,89,101) of the total beneficiaries vaccinated in India,” the statement read.
So far, more than 1.04 crore (1,04,96,308) people have recovered in India with 15,853 patients being cured and discharged in the last 24 hours.
With this, the recovery rate has also reached to 97.16 per cent in the country. The higher number of recoveries via-a-vis new cases has widened the gap between recovered and active cases to 1,03,44,848.
Furthermore, 85.06 per cent of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in 6 States and UTs, the ministry said.
In past 24 hours, Kerala has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 6,341 cases and 5,339 people recovered in Maharashtra followed by 517 in Tamil Nadu, it added.
