Active Covid cases drop to 4.28 lakh in India after 132 days

New Delhi (NVI): India’s active coronavirus cases had significantly dropped to 4.28 lakh for the first time after 132 days and stands at 4,28,644 today, Union Health Ministry said.

This is the first time since July that the country has witnessed a lowest drop in its active COVID-19 caseload. The total active cases were 4,26,167 on July 23.

“There has been a sustained decrease in the number of active cases. India’s present active caseload consists of just 4.51 per cent of India’s total positive cases,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a statement.

The ministry also said that the daily new cases added to the country’s COVID-19 numbers have been around 30,000 since the past three days. In the last 24 hours, the country reported 36,604 of daily new cases.

“43,062 people have been recovered and discharged in the last 24 hours. However, the number of daily recovered cases has surpassed the daily new cases since the past five days,” the ministry noted.

Meanwhile, the difference in new recoveries outnumbering new cases has also improved the national recovery rate to 94.03 per cent today.

The total recovered cases stand at 89,32,647, while the gap between recovered cases and active cases, that is steadily increasing, has crossed 85 lakh and presently stands at 85,04,003.

According to the health ministry data, 78.35 per cent of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in 10 States/UTs.

Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 6,290 newly recovered cases. 6,151 people recovered in Kerala followed by 5,036 in Delhi.

“77.25 per cent of the new cpro cases are from 10 States and UTs,” the ministry said. Out of these, Kerala reported the maximum daily new cases with more than 5,300, followed by Maharashtra with over 4,900 new cases.

So far, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has surged to 94,99,414. The death toll due to the contagion has increased to 1,38,122 with 501 new fatalities.
