Active Covid cases fall below 5 lakh in India after 3 months

New Delhi (NVI): India’s active coronavirus cases has fallen below the 5-lakh mark for the first time after 106 days and stands at 4,94,657 in the country, Union Health Ministry said.

This is the first time since August 7 that the country has witnessed such a drop in its active COVID-19 caseload.

“India scales an unprecedented peak. Active Cases drop below 5L mark for the first time after 106 days,” the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare said in tweet.

This assumes significance in the context of many countries reporting a surge in their active caseload, it added.

In another tweet, the Ministry said, “This landmark achievement has been made possible by the Centre’s sustained, graded and targetted strategies, their effective implementation by the States/Union Territories, dedicated and selfless service of doctors and all other Covid-19 warriors.”

In a significant achievement, the country’s active COVID-19 cases comes down from 6,07,384 in August and 10,09,976 in mid-September.

At present, there are 4,94,657 active cases in the country which comprise 5.73 per cent of the total caseload.

Meanwhile, the number of people who have recovered from the deadly virus surged to 80.13 lakh, pushing the national recovery rate to 92.79 per cent, according to the Health Ministry’s data.

India’s novel coronavirus tally rose to 86.36 lakh, while the death toll from the disease climbed to 1,27,571 in the country.
