Srinagar: In an unprecedented development, a group of social activists, including Kashmiri Muslims, today targeted the main office of separatist pro-Pakistan conglomerate Hurriyat Conference here to register their protest against the recent killing of a Kashmiri Pandit.
The group, whose members proclaimed to be social activists, brought down the mega signboard from the main gate of the Hurriyat Conference in Rajbagh area.
The protesters wrote ‘India’ on the iron gate of the building which has been the centre of separatist activities in Kashmir ever since it was opened in 1993 when the Hurriyat Conference was floated at the behest of and with the support of Pakistan.
The protest was against the gunning down of Kashmiri Pandit Puran Krishan Bhat by a terrorist in Shopian district two days back, in yet another targeted killing of the minority community members in the Valley.
The social activists, who targeted the Hurriyat Conference office, held the separatist conglomerate responsible for continued terrorism and bloodshed in Kashmir.
One of the protesters said that while the children of Hurriyat leaders are studying abroad, they incite other youth to pick up guns and stones, destroying peace in Kashmir.
The office has remained shut ever since Article 370 was revoked in August 2019, when the leaders of the conglomerate were detained or arrested.
In August, a Kashmiri Pandit had affixed the national tricolor at the gate of the Hurriyat office but it was removed after some time.
