581 new cases in Afghanistan take COVID-19 tally to 7,653

New Delhi (NVI): 581 new coronavirus cases were reported in Afganistan in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 7,653 in the country, according to Afghan media reports.

With this, Afghanistan has recorded its biggest single-day rise of new infections as around half of the tests conducted came positive.

The country’s death toll due to the virus stands at 178 after 5 new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, as per reports.

Among the new cases, 165 were reported in Kabul, 134 in Nangarhar, 38 in Herat, 55 in Balkh, 30 in Laghman, 23 in Samanga and 29 in Paktia.

Apart from this, 21 were reported in Ghazni, 12 in Takhar, 16 in Kunar, 15 in Sar-e-Pul, 13 in Badghis, 1 in Wardak, 5 in Baghlan, 4 in Kunduz, 4 in Parwan, 9 in Panjshir, 3 in Paktika, 2 in Khost, 1 in Badakhshan and 1 in Daikundi.

The Afghan health ministry has pledged to increase the number of daily tests. So far, 24,697 suspected patients have been tested in the country.

Meanwhile, more than 80 prisoners and prison employees have so far been tested positive in Afghanistan, as per reports.

At least 850 patients have been cured or discharged in the country.
