Air pollution in Delhi on decline, but remains at ‘Poor’ level

New Delhi (NVI): Delhiites woke up to cleaner skies today as the moderate winds further improved the overall air quality in the national capital region to 218 in the morning from 234 last evening although remaining at the lower end of ‘Poor’ category.

More relief is in the offing for the residents, with light rain likely in the next three days that is expected to clear out the pollutants from the air.

As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting Research (SAFAR), Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was 218 at 9.30 AM having improved from 234 at 4 PM on Sunday.

In several places of Delhi, the AQI hovered between ‘moderate’ and ‘poor’ category. At Pusa Road, the PM 2.5 level was at 182 while PM 10 level read at 132.

At Lodhi Road, the PM 2.5 level was at 201 (‘poor’ category) and PM 10 level was recorded at 125.

However, at Chandni Chowk. the AQI level was ‘very poor’ as the PM 2.5 level read 328 while PM 10 level was 246 (‘poor’).

AQI that falls between 51-100 is considered as ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 falls in the ‘moderate’ category, 201-300 is said to be in the ‘poor’ category, 301-400 is in the ‘very poor’ category while 401-500 is said to be in the ‘hazardous’ category.
