Jammu (NVI): Amid rising cases of coronavirus across the country, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today announced that classes up to and including class 9 will be closed for 2 weeks in all schools from tomorrow till April 18.
In a couple of tweets, the J&K LG said that classes 10, 11 and 12 will also be closed for one week in all schools from Monday (tomorrow) till April 11 in in the entire Jammu and Kashmir UT.
Apart from that, all social and customary gatherings will be restricted to 200 only and after following the Covid SOPs issued by the J&K administration.
“In view of rising trend in #COVID19 cases in J&K & likelihood of young children getting infected & transmitting infection in large numbers, ALL classes upto & including Class 9 in schools will be closed for 2 weeks in all schools beginning on Monday, 5 April till 18 April 21 in J&K,” he said.

“Classes 10, 11 & 12 will also be closed for one week in all schools from Monday, 5 April 2021 till 11 April 2021 in entire J&K. Further, all gatherings for social and customary functions will be restricted to 200 only and after following due COVID SOPs,” LG Manoj Sinha tweeted.
J&K’s overall tally Covid-19 has now reached 1,32,439, with 500 new cases recorded for a second consecutive day. The UT has been witnessing a sharp rise in cases recently.
The LG’s announcement comes on a day when India recorded 93,249 new coronavirus cases in biggest one-day spike since mid-September. 513 more people have succumbed to the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s data released this morning.
With this, the country’s overall tally has now risen to 12,485,509 while the death toll has reached 164,623, as per the Ministry.
