New Delhi (NVI): Allahabad High Court today ordered lockdown in five cities in Uttar Pradesh — Prayagraj, Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, and Gorakhpur– till April 26, after taking stock of the Covid-19 situation in the state.
However, the Yogi Adityanath government has insisted that it has initiated strict curbs to stem the infection and would not impose ‘total lockdown’ as it would affect the lives of people in the state.
As per the court’s directions, essential services will remain open. The court said that all religious activities in public place will remain suspended.
“All hawkers including fruits and vegetable vendors, milk vendors and bread vendors shall go off the road by 11am, every day till April 26,” the high court said.
The death toll due to the deadly virus rose to 9,830 with 129 fresh fatalities in the state. The high court’s order also comes a day after UP reported its highest single-day rise of 30,596 cases.
