New Delhi (NVI): Creating history, Democrat Joe Biden today defeated President Donald Trump and is projected to become the 46th President of the United States.
Joe Biden, the president-elect, took to twitter and stated, “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me.”

His victory came after more than three days of uncertainty as election officials sorted through a surge of mail-in votes that delayed the processing of some ballots. Biden crossed 270 Electoral College votes with a win in Pennsylvania.
The high stakes election was held on November 3 against the backdrop of an unprecedented pandemic that has killed more than 2,30,000 Americans and wiped away millions of jobs.
Nationwide, Joe Biden led Trump by nearly 4 million votes out of a record 147 million cast.
Biden, who turns 78 later this month, will also make history as the oldest person ever to assume the presidency in the United States.
The result also provided a history-making moment for Biden’s running mate, Senator Kamala Harris of California, who will become the first woman, the first Black American and the first Asian American, to serve as the Vice President.
Harris took to twitter and wrote, “This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.”
