Budgam, Oct 21 (NVI): Hundreds of mourners gathered on Monday to perform the last rites of the slain doctor from Budgam, who was among the seven people killed in the major terror attack in the Gagangir area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday night.
Dr. Shahnawaz who got killed yesterday’s Ganderbal attack, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Naidgam, with mourners chanting slogans calling for an end to the bloodshed in Kashmir. “Stop the bloodshed of innocent people,” they cried as the funeral procession moved through the village.
Men, women, children, and the elderly participated in the funeral, with the village enveloped in sorrow. Many women were seen beating their chests, while others mourned in silence. “Every eye was moist here, as both siblings were young and beloved by the entire village for their cheerful nature,” said a group of mourners.
The terror attack on Sunday night also claimed the lives of six construction workers, who were building a tunnel, when terrorists opened fire on their camp. Both locals and non-locals were present at the campsite, and at least two militants carried out the attack.
The victims of the attack were identified as Dr. Shahnawaz, a resident of Naidgam, Budgam; Gurmeet Singh from Punjab’s Gurdaspur; Mohammad Haneef; Faheem Nasir, a safety manager; Kaleem from Bihar; Anil Kumar Shukla, a mechanical manager from Madhya Pradesh; and Shashi Abrol, a designer from Jammu.
Meanwhile, a four-member team of the National Investigation Agency team, led by a senior officer, reached the terror attack site. (News Vibes of India)
