Army Chief meets LG in Srinagar, gets Feedback from Officers Ahead of polls

Srinagar, Sep 12 (NVI): Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi today landed in Srinagar and met J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan Srinagar.

An official spokesman told NVI that Army Chief General Dwivedi met LG Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar. “The army chief was accompanied by Northern Army commander Lt General M V Suchindra Kumar and GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai,” the spokesman said.

Defence sources said that the Army Chief took a brief from LG on the overall security situation prevailing in J&K that is all set to see three-phased Assembly polls from September 18. They said that even though the meeting didn’t last for more than half-an hour, the LG briefed the Army Chief about various measures taken for smooth conduct of elections in J&K at the administrative level. “During the meeting, the army chief offered all possible support to LG led administration in J&K for ensuring smooth elections in the UT,” sources said.

Earlier, the Army chief got a fresh feedback from the Northern Army commander and the GoC 15 Corps about the security situation prevailing in J&K. As per sources he was also briefed about the yesterday’s operation in Jammu’s Udhampur region where two terrorists were killed and the counter insurgency operations under way in various districts of Jammu region.

For the smooth conduct of polls in J&K, the Election Commission of India has already mapped the hyper sensitive and sensitive booths in J&K for deployment of security forces at the booths.

The army, as per ECI sources has been assigned to remain extra vigilant along the Line of Control and International Border to ensure there is no attempt to push in terrorists into this side with an aim of disrupting the polls in J&K. Senior army officials have been frequenting the LoC in Kashmir and Jammu.   (News Vibes of India)
