Army Chief visits border areas of Jammu, assesses ceasefire maintenance

Jammu (NVI) : Army Chief General M M Naravane visited the forward areas of Jammu region, including Aknoor, Rajouri and Naushera areas, bordering Pakistan, to assess the ground situation, especially in respect of maintenance of ceasefire.

On arrival at the Nagrota-based Corps Hqrs yesterday, Gen Naravane was briefed by the Corps Commander Lt Gen Suchendra Kumar regarding the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness, said a statement issued by the Northern Army Command.

He also apprised the Army Chief about the COVID-19 Management and the assistance provided to the veterans and the people of the region in the fight against the Pandemic.

Accompanied by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Y K Joshi and Lt Gen Kumar, Gen Naravane thereafter visited the forward areas at Akhnoor, Naushera and Rajouri along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.

“Gen Naravane interacted with troops deployed in the forward areas and appreciated the sustained efforts of all Ranks of the White Knight Corps towards maintaining the sanctity of the Line of Control as well as wholeheartedly assisting the civil administration, veterans and civil population specially in Border areas to combat the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic,” the statement said.

India and Pakistan had reached an agreement on border ceasefire in November 2003 but it was being repeatedly violated by Pakistan. However, on February 24 this year, an understanding was reached between the two countries to strictly adhere to the ceasefire agreement with immediate effect. Since then, there has been no report of any major violation.

During his two-day trip, he also visited the Military Hospital at Jammu and reviewed the medical preparedness for COVID -19. He appreciated the vital critical care being provided by the doctors and health care workers and awarded them appropriately.
