Srinagar, Jan 15(NVI): Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi today stated that violence in Jammu and Kashmir has significantly declined due to sustained efforts by security forces.
He pointed to the peaceful conduct of Assembly polls, Lok Sabha polls, and the Amarnath Yatra as evidence of the region’s improved security situation.
“In the hinterland of Jammu and Kashmir, stringent measures by security forces have resulted in a considerable reduction in violence. The peaceful completion of key events reflects a better environment in the region,” the Army Chief said, addressing the 77th army day function in New Delhi.
Commenting on the situation along the northern and western borders, Gen Dwivedi described the northern border as “stable but sensitive,” with focused efforts on enhancing critical infrastructure. On the Line of Control (LoC), he noted that while the ceasefire agreement is holding, infiltration attempts continue to be a challenge.
Highlighting the Army’s modernization initiatives, the Chief said, “India is progressing toward becoming a developed nation, and a secure environment is vital for this growth. The Indian Army is committed to evolving into a modern, agile, and technology-driven force to meet future challenges.”
For the first time, the Army Day parade was held in Pune, celebrating the region’s historic significance as a bastion of military resilience since the time of the Marathas. The parade also featured a special performance by the Nepali Army band and showcased the increasing role of women in the Army, with their participation in both officer and non-officer capacities.
The Army Chief concluded by reaffirming the Army’s role in safeguarding national security and contributing to India’s path of progress and development. (News Vibes of India)
