Rajouri (NVI): On the first day of the New Year, an Indian Army soldier was killed after Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing in Nowshera Sector along Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu region, defence officials said.
Naib Subedar Ravinder, who was critically injured in the Pakistani firing, later succumbed to his injuries, they said.
A defence official said that the Indian Army also retaliated effectively to the unprovoked shelling and firing by Pakistan.
In an official statement, the Army said that Naib Subedar Ravinder was a brave, highly motivated and a sincere soldier. “The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty,” it said.
