Quetta: At least 25 people have been killed and more than 50 injured in a major suicide attack by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) targeting the Pakistani military at the Quetta Railway Station in Balochistan.
A suicide bomber of the BLA detonated himself in the waiting area of the railway station this morning, causing a devastating impact, officials said.
“This attack was primarily on the law enforcement agencies,” Commissioner of Quetta told the media.
He said the suicide bomber entered the station along with some items and positioned himself near a crowd of waiting people before blowing himself up.
The explosion caused widespread damage to the station and left several people dead on the spot and many injured, several among whom succumbed to the wounds either in the hospital or on the way.
According to officials and other sources, the updated death toll was 25 and the number of injured was over 50.
The death toll may increase as several of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
Soon after the explosion, BLA issued a statement, claiming responsibility for the attack.
“This morning, a Fidayeen attack was carried out on a Pakistani army unit at Quetta Railway Station as they were returning via Jaffer Express after completing a course at the Infantry School. The attack was executed by the BLA’s Fidayeen unit, Majeed Brigade,” said the statement.
“Details will soon be released to the media,” added the statement issued by BLA spokesman Jeeyand Baloch.
