Srinagar, Sep 14 (NVI): Three unidentified terrorists were killed in a night-long operation in Tappar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi said today.
He said that security forces including Police and the Army received a tip-off about presence of terrorists in Tappar area of Baramulla after which multi-layer cordon was launched late on Friday evening.
“As the troops zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire at the forces triggering an intense gunbattle.
The encounter was on throughout the night and it intensified with the first light,” IGP told reporters at the encounter site.
He said combing operation is on in the area and the operation is not over yet. “We have spotted some bodies and haven’t retrieved them as yet,” the IGP said. Earlier, the police officials confirmed that three terrorists have been killed in the area.
A video of an injured terrorist struggle also went viral on social media groups.
The IGP said that since the operation is on, it is not feasible to disclose the further details.
“There are operational things involved. As the operation will be called off, we will disclose things to media,” he said.
Official sources told NVI that it is being investigated whether the group had infiltrated from Uri sector of Baramulla or it was already inside the hinterland. “It is not clear yet whether the slain terrorists are locals or foreigners,” they said.
They said that multi-layer cordon was still in place as forces suspect presence of more terrorists in the area.
“To rule of the presence of any more terrorist in the area, cordon is on and area is being combed,” he said (News Vibes of India)
