Bannu (Pakistan): Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) dealt a major blow to the Pakistan police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the intervening night, killing 8 personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in twin-attack in Lakki Marwat area of Bannu Division.

The Mujahideen of the TTP caused the casualties by first targeting a police station and then a rescue police team.

The Mujahideen of TTP’s Laser Wing, past midnight, attacked Arsla check post of Sadar Police Station in Lakki Marwat Tehsil, killing 3 personnel and injuring 2, the outfit’s spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement this morning.

A police team, led by DSP Iqbal Momand, was rushed from the city for providing help to the police station under attack.

The TTP had, however, planted a landmine under a bridge which the rescue team had to cross and caused an explosion, killing 5 policemen.

“The team that came to help the police, which was led by DSP Iqbal Momand, was targeted by Mujahideen with a mine planted on Mianwali Road, in which five officials including DSP Iqbal Momand were killed,” Khurasani said.

He said all the Mujahideen remained safe in these two attacks.

The spokesman added that DSP Iqbal Momand was involved in burning of TTP “comrades some time ago after brutally martyring them”.
