BJP dominates in Guj local body polls

New Delhi (NVI): The BJP is once again heading for a big win in Gujarat municipal polls, leading in 75 of 81 municipalities, voting for which was held Sunday. The ruling BJP has established a wide gap with Congress.

As per the latest trends, BJP gained a lead by winning 2,085 seats of 8,474 total seats across various municipalities so far, while Congress has won 602 seats across various municipalities, district and taluka panchayats, district and taluka panchayats in the state.

The Aam Aadmi Party has also impressed in the Gujarat local body polls, surging ahead in four municipalities, beating Congress which is only leading in two.

The counting of the votes in the elections to Gujarat’s 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka is underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted on BJP’s grand performance in the local body polls: “Results of the Nagar Palika, Taluka Panchayat and District Panchayat polls across Gujarat give a crystal clear message- Gujarat is firmly with the BJP’s agenda of development and good governance. I bow to the people of Gujarat for the unwavering faith and affection towards BJP.”

On Sunday, the voting of local Gujarat polls took place with municipalities recording a voter turnout of 58.82 per cent, while 65.80 for the district panchayats and 66.60 per cent for taluka panchayats.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will meet all the BJP MLAs in the state at around 6:30 pm tiday.

Last week, the BJP swept polls across six municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar, winning 483 of 576 seats.
