New Delhi (NVI): A blast took place near the Israeli Embassy this evening in Delhi in which a few cars were damaged, as per reports. No one was injured in the blast and it was a low-intensity blast, Delhi police said.
The Delhi Police Special Cell reached the spot to investigate the incident and the entire area was cordoned off. Extra deployment of police force was made immediately after the blast occurred.
As per reports, the blast took place near 5 APJ Abdul Kalam Road near Jindal house at around 5 pm.
“A very low intensity improvised device went off at 5.05 pm near 5 apj Abdul kalam road near Jindal house. No injury to any person is there and nor any damage to property was witnessed except window panes of 3 vehicles parked nearby. Initial impressions suggest a mischievous attempt to create a sensation,” Delhi Police said in a statement.
The spot at which the blast occurred is less than 2 km from Vijay Chowk, where the Beating Retreat ceremony is being held. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among other dignitaries are attending the event.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted that he spoke to his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi and expressed serious concern.
“Spoke just now to Israeli FM @Gabi_Ashkenazi about the explosion outside the Israeli Embassy. We take this very seriously. Assured him of the fullest protection for the Embassy and Israeli diplomats. Matter is under investigation and no effort will be spared to find the culprits,” he tweeted.

The blast also takes place on the 29th anniversary of the formalisation of Indo-Israel bilateral ties.
