New Delhi (NVI): In the wake of Covid-19 pandemic and more recently, detection of the new strain of coronavirus in the UK, Canada has partially resumed visa issuance in India while accepting biometric enrolment for select categories including returning students and workers.
“As of today, January 20, work permit applicants may now request a biometric appointment through the VAC webform,” the Canadian Embassy in India said in a tweet.

“Returning students and returning workers with a valid work or study permit who have applied for a temporary resident visa to return to their work or studies in Canada may also request an appointment,” the Embassy said in another tweet.
It said that students and family class applications (spouses, partners and children) can continue to request biometric appointments.
Under revised guidelines, visa applicants who have submitted applications for categories of student (SP) and family class priority – spouses, partners and children (FCP), Work permit (WP), Returning Students and workers can enrol biometrics at Canada Visa Applications Centres in India, according to VFS Global. The process is effective from today (January 20).
“Returning Students and returning Workers will need to book an appointment using their old study and work permit documents instead of the BILs,” said VFS Global.
The company further stated that if the applicant is a returning student or worker, then he or she has to follow some instructions to schedule their biometric appointment at the India VACs.
They will need to book their appointment using their previous study or work permit application number. The number will start with an S or W, VFS Global said.
In addition to this, they will need to Upload their extension permit which must be valid for at least 30 days from the date of their appointment request instead of thir Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL).
Apart from that, the VFS office informed that the opening hours of VAC in Chandigarh, Jalandhar, and Ahmedabad will be from 08:00 hrs – 17:00 hrs from Monday to Saturday.
