Srinagar, Oct 21(NVI): Candle marches were organized in several parts of the Kashmir valley to protest the killings of civilians in Ganderbal. Residents expressed grief and anger over the loss of life in the attack.
The victims were employees of APCO Infratech, which is constructing the Z-Morh tunnel on the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway. This was the first militant attack on a key infrastructure project in J&K and took place in an area that had been relatively calm.
The tunnel is vital for providing all-weather connectivity to Sonamarg and, eventually, Ladakh.
In Srinagar, locals gathered at the Clock Tower in Lal Chowk, holding candles and posters as they protested against the killings at Gagangeer in Ganderbal.
The demonstrations saw participation from people across different areas, with both locals and employees calling for justice and peace.
In Devsar, a candle march was led by senior citizens and local residents. The march began at the Tehsil office and concluded at Somo Stand, where participants expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and called for an end to violence.
Meanwhile, a candlelight march was held in Shopian to condemn the civilian killings in Ganderbal and Shopian. Participants denounced the attack and expressed outrage over the loss of innocent lives.
In Jammu, members of the Shiv Sena Dogra Front and Rashtriya Bajrang Dal burned Pakistani flags in protest against the killings. The protesters called for the elimination of the terrorists involved in the attack to restore confidence among the public. (News Vibes of India)
