These districts have reported more than 150 per cent rise in active coronavirus cases in the first 15 days of the month of March.

In addition, 55 districts in 17 states witnessed a spike of anywhere between 100 and 150 per cent, the Centre also observed.

Maharashtra, which is the worst-affected state due to Covid, accounts for maximum of 13 ‘districts of concern’, according to the ministry.

According to data from the health ministry, among other states, cases increased by 500 per cent in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, by 425 per cent in Surajpur in Chhattisgarh and by 367 per cent in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur districts in the mentioned period. Rupnagar in Punjab also reported a spike of 256 per cent.

India recorded its highest one-day tally of coronavirus cases of this year today with 35,871 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in interaction with Chief Ministers on Wednesday, expressed concern over the resurge in cases and called for “quick and decisive” measures to check the “second peak” of Covid-19 cases in India.

“If we do not stop it here, then a condition for a nationwide outbreak may emerge… People should not be put on panic-mode but there is a need to ensure that they get rid of this problem as well,” the Prime Minister said in his virtual interaction with the CMs.
