Srinagar (NVI): A Chinese soldier was apprehended by the Indian Army in Demchok sector of Eastern Ladakh today after he had strayed across the LAC (Line of Actual Control).

In a statement issued here, the Army said that the captured soldier has been identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long of People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

“The PLA soldier has been provided medical assistance including oxygen, food and warm clothes to protect him from the vagaries of extreme altitude and harsh climatic conditions,” the Army said in a statement, adding that “a request has also been received from the PLA about the whereabouts of the missing soldier.”

The Army further said that as per established protocols, he will be returned back to Chinese officials at the Chushul – Moldo meeting point after completion of formalities.

The development comes when India and China are locked in a military stand-off in Eastern Ladakh for over five months.

While military and diplomatic level talks are underway to de-escalate the tension between the two armies in the region, a concrete decision has not been taken yet.

There has been a troop build-up along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and in many ways, it has no precedence in the recent past, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said at an event Thursday.
