Jammu, Jan 06 (NVI): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the people of Jammu that the newly inaugurated direct rail link to Kashmir would be a source of economic growth and development, not a disadvantage.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the new Jammu Railway Division, Omar highlighted the transformative potential of the project for the region, stressing that it would create jobs, stimulate trade, and boost tourism in Jammu.

“This is a historic day for Jammu & Kashmir. The long-standing demand for a separate railway division for Jammu has now been fulfilled, and with it, new opportunities for growth and development,” Omar said. He reassured the public that the new division would strengthen Jammu’s economy by providing local employment opportunities, particularly for the youth, while also driving growth in trade and tourism.

The Chief Minister emphasized that with the division’s control and coordination now based in Jammu, there would be a focus on local recruitment, ensuring that the benefits of the new infrastructure project would reach the region’s residents. “We are committed to prioritizing local employment, helping our youth find meaningful jobs and contributing to the overall prosperity of Jammu,” he stated.

Omar also welcomed the new Srinagar-Katra rail link, which is set to address travel challenges. “This rail link will eliminate the problems caused by winter flight disruptions and high airfare costs, making travel between Jammu and Kashmir more efficient and affordable,” he noted.

The event was attended by prominent leaders, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the division, marking a new era of connectivity for Jammu and Kashmir. (News Vibes of India)
