Jammu, Jan 05(NVI): In a significant step towards the rehabilitation of fire-affected families in Mulwarwan village of Kishtwar’s Warwan Valley, the Government of India has approved a special housing project under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).

The initiative will provide much-needed housing assistance to families left homeless after a devastating fire ravaged the village on October 15 last year.

The disaster destroyed numerous homes, leaving several families without shelter. Just a day after taking office on October 16, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the affected area to assess the damage and provide assurances of long-term rehabilitation. He pledged to secure assistance from the Central Government to help the victims rebuild their lives and homes.

Acting swiftly on his promise, CM Abdullah appealed to the Central Government for financial aid to support the affected families. The approval of this special housing package for up to 85 houses, including seven earlier PMAY-G beneficiaries, reflects his dedication to ensuring that these families receive the support they need to return to normalcy.

The Ministry of Rural Development has formally communicated the project approval to the Secretary of the Department of Rural Development, UT Government of Jammu & Kashmir. The sanctioned houses will be constructed during the financial year 2024-25 as part of this special initiative.

The Chief Minister reiterated the urgency of implementing the project and expressed gratitude to the Central Government for prioritizing the rehabilitation of the affected families. This landmark approval signifies a collaborative effort between the state and central governments to address the immediate and long-term needs of those impacted by the tragedy. (News Vibes of India)
