Sonamarg, Jan 13 (NVI): At the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel, a transformative infrastructure project ensuring year-round connectivity to Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the restoration of J&K’s statehood.
While urging the Prime Minister to fulfill the long-standing promise of statehood restoration, Omar also lauded the Centre’s initiatives in boosting development across the region and maintaining peace along the borders. “The development projects spearheaded by your government are bringing visible progress to Jammu and Kashmir. The improvement in security and the restoration of peace along our borders have been significant for the people,” Omar said, acknowledging the positive strides made under PM Modi’s leadership.
He, however, emphasized that political empowerment through the restoration of statehood was essential to completing the region’s transition. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have waited long enough for their dignity and political identity to be restored. I request you, sir, to honor this commitment,” Omar said.
Prime Minister Modi, in his address, highlighted the transformative potential of the Z-Morh tunnel and other ongoing projects aimed at bolstering connectivity, tourism, and economic growth in J&K. However, he did not directly respond to the statehood demand during the event.
The Z-Morh tunnel, a project that faced years of delays and challenges, marks a significant milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s infrastructural development. While it symbolizes progress, the event also brought to light the region’s continued aspirations for political empowerment and self-governance. (News Vibes of India)
