New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 120.6 million, with over 2,670,000 deaths reported. Over 68.4 million patients have been cured of the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
In the US, the total number of coronavirus infection has reached to more than 29.5 million, while the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have surpassed 5,36,000 in the country.
Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 11.6 million-mark and stand at 11,603,535 while the number of deaths has surged past 2,82,000.
Meanwhile, French prime minister Jean Castex has said that France had entered a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, as the seven-day average of new cases rose above 25,000 for the first time since November 20.
Furthermore, the Philippines’ coronavirus task force said it will suspend the arrival of foreigners and some returning citizens as the country battles a renewed surge in Covid cases and increasing infections of new variants.
Iceland is to allow entry to all visitors bearing proof of vaccination against Covid starting from Thursday, the country’s health ministry said. The move makes the country one of the first European nations to open its borders beyond the Schengen area
China reported four new Covid cases in the mainland on March 16, down from 13 cases a day earlier.
In another development, the European Union’s (EU) medicines regulator said on Tuesday it was “firmly convinced” the benefits of AstraZeneca’s vaccine outweigh potential risks, insisting there was no evidence linking it to blood clots after several nations suspended the shot over health fears.
