Coronavirus cases reach 4.9 million worldwide

New Delhi (NVI): The total number of positive coronavirus infections around the world has surpassed 4.9 million while more than 3,23,000 people have lost their lives due to the contagion, according to John Hopkins University tally.

Brazil has become the world’s third worst affected country by the coronavirus outbreak after record number of deaths were recorded in a single day.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Brazil have reached 2,71,885 with more than 17,000 fatalities being reported in the country.

In the US, the death toll is nearing 92,000 with more than 1.5 million positive cases have been reported across the country.

In another development, Spain’s number of daily deaths have stayed under 100 for three consecutive days now. Meanwhile, people have taken to the streets to protest the state of emergency order and movement restrictions.

Whereas Italy’s death toll rose slightly after several days of declining numbers. Bars, restaurants, stores, hairdressers and museums reopened in most regions of the country after nearly 10 weeks of lockdown.

Meanwhile, the member states of World Health Organization (WHO) agreed on a review of the global pandemic response at a virtual meeting of the World Health Assembly.
