New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 128.7 million, with over 2,814,000 deaths reported. Over 73 million patients have been cured of the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus infection has reached to more than 30.4 million, while the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have surpassed 5,52,000 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 12.7 million-mark and stand at 12,748,747 while the number of deaths has surged past 3,21,000.

Furthermore, France has imposed a nationwide month-long lockdown to curb a rising third wave of coronavirus. Schools will close for at least three weeks, workers will work from home, and travel within the country will be banned for a month after Easter.

Italy has made coronavirus vaccinations mandatory for all health workers, in a potentially controversial move aimed at protecting vulnerable patients and pushing back against significant ‘no-vax’ sentiment in the country.

Meanwhile, Brazil has detected a new Covid variant in São Paulo state that is similar to the one first seen in South Africa, it was reported earlier.

Sweden’s government will postpone a planned easing of some Covid restrictions until at least 3 May amid a severe third wave, the prime minister said.
