Coronavirus cases surge past 23.3 mn worldwide; death toll tops 8 lakh

New Delhi (NVI): More than 23.3 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 around the world, and more than 14.91 million have recovered. At least 8,07,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In the US, the number of coronavirus cases have surged past 5.7 million while the death toll has exceeded 1,76,000 in the country.

Brazil’s COVID-19 infections have crossed 3.6 million while the death toll is nearing 1,15,000.

The French health ministry has reported 4,897 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, marking the highest daily level since the end of a two-month lockdown in May to combat the pandemic.South

The number of daily coronavirus cases recorded in Italy has nearly doubled in the past five days, jumping to more than 1,200 over the past 24 hours.

Germany has announced 711 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s total to 2,33,575. The country’s death toll rose by three to 9,272, the tally showed.

Victoria had mixed news about the ongoing second outbreak on Monday, with 15 deaths but a sharp drop in new cases. They plummeted to 116 from Sunday’s figure of 208 – the lowest number for Victorian daily cases since July 5.

Former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is in a serious condition with a fever, her party’s spokeswoman said.

South Korea counted its 11th straight day of triple-digit daily jumps in coronavirus cases and reported 266 cases in the last 24 hours.
