Coronavirus cases surge past 74.1 million worldwide

New Delhi (NVI): More than 74.1 million people around the world have been confirmed to have the coronavirus, while the death toll has crossed 16,48,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. Over 41.9 million patients have recovered from the deadly disease globally.

The number of coronavirus infections in the US have crossed 16.9 million while the number of fatalities caused due to the deadly contagion have exceeded 3,07,000 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 70 lakh-mark and stands at 7,040,608 while the number of deaths have surged past 1,83,000 in the country.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 26,923 to 1,406,161. The reported death toll rose by 698 to 24,125, the tally showed.

Meanwhile, in Australia, a Covid-19 cluster developing on Sydney’s northern beaches has grown to five, including an aged care worker from Avalon Beach.

South Korea reported a record number of coronavirus deaths on Thursday as the country’s largest wave of infections strains hospitals and contact tracers.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) reported that there had been 22 additional deaths as of midnight on Wednesday, sharply up from a previous high of 13 earlier in the week. South Korea has now reported a total of 46,453 cases of the novel coronavirus, with 634 deaths.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday that countries in the Asia-Pacific region are not guaranteed to have early access to Covid-19 shots and urged them to adopt a long-term approach to the pandemic.
